Bulletproof vests would not maintain its resistance forever. In fact, bulletproof vests can become damaged and bad for further use. Therefore, you must conduct intensive inspection on your vest from time to time. There are several situations that would warrant a change of bulletproof vest. Here are a few of them.

- Most ballistic armor with NIJ rating often have a lifespan of five years ballistic capabilities. If you use your vest every day, you might not have up to five years. But if your vest is properly taken care of, it should last up to five years. After that, you should start browsing for a new one.
For your own safety, it is important that you constantly check your vest for any form of creases, tears, smells and burns. If you follow these instructions religiously and diligently, you should enjoy your bulletproof vest for the recommended life span. However, if it is not properly maintained, it might not even last you half that time.
